The Ministry of Health of Northern Macedonia has announced that the first case of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has been registered in the country.
The announcement of the ministry says that it is about a person who came from Britain, while the same earlier, in January of this year, was infected with COVID-19.
“After recovery, the patient received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Two days ago it tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time, after which it was confirmed that it is the Omicron variant. “The patient currently has a light clinical picture and is being treated in isolation at home”, it is said in the announcement of the ministry.
Northern Macedonia in the last 24 hours has registered 266 other cases of COVID-19 as well as 717 patients who won the battle against the virus.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country has reached 222,932, of which 210,319 have been cured.
The country also registered 15 more victims of COVID-19, bringing their total to 7,894.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the country’s health authorities have conducted 1,570,171 tests for suspected COVID-19, including 4,572 tests performed within the last day.
Currently the number of active cases of COVID-19 in Northern Macedonia is 4,719.
