Northern Macedonia on Wednesday registered 34 victims with COVID-19 as well as 1,554 new cases of coronavirus.
New cases emerged after testing 4,153 or 37.4 percent of those tested tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the report of the Institute of Public Health, the number of victims is higher in the last month, while the total number of victims has reached 8,658.
Most victims were registered in Skopje, a total of 13 people.
According to the report, 1,843 people have recovered while the number of active cases has reached 11,748.
In northern Macedonia, according to a report by the Ministry of Health, the number of people vaccinated against coronavirus remains low. Unlike December, when up to 6,000 people were vaccinated on a daily basis, this number has now been halved, while there are days when the vaccination does not even exceed the figure of 2,000 doses.
So far, over 864,000 people or about 46 percent of the population have been immunized with two doses of the vaccine, while about 13,000 others have received the third dose.
The Ministry of Health has again called for vaccination as the only option for protection against infection, while also warning of a campaign to raise public awareness on the need for immunization.
“People who have received the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine are considered fully vaccinated. In the last two years, vaccination has been shown to be the only way to reduce mortality. “Taking two doses and a third dose of the vaccine does not mean that we are resistant to disease or the emergence of new variants, but vaccines help to pass with fewer consequences, but also prevent deaths,” said Marija Dimzova from Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje, which is also a member of the Commission for Infectious Diseases.
The lack of interest of citizens to vaccinate has led to the expiration of about 15,000 vaccines, so the Ministry of Health has decided to eliminate them.
