Former President Bujar Nishani in his speech at the National Assembly convened by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, stated this Saturday that this party is trying to move towards a merger.
He said he believes that an important process starts from this country.
“This party would be brought to the brink of its destruction, of extinction. During these 30 years, this party has gone through various processes and dynamics. The DP has ruled the country for 30 years, but has also been in opposition. The DP has built this place, but it has also been in protest. This party has appointed ministers, prime ministers and presidents, but also killed militants and election commissioners. The DP is its own party with post-Cold War Europe, which executed its first leader, Azem Hajdari. I strongly believe that the spirit of Azem Hajdari is among us in this Assembly. The spirit of this Assembly should have been conveyed since July. But the leadership did not think and did not worry about the concerns of the DP. He was immersed in his body, in the trade of his party, in a ‘fake’ opposition. PD after 8 years in opposition received fewer votes from Albanian citizens than when it came out in opposition after 8 years of government. This analysis for revival and reform was denied to this party, as already after April 25 the fate was not in the hands of the Democrats, but in the pockets of the mercenaries. Fortunately, you, the membership of this party, allowed this situation to happen again. You defended the DP, and the right to common freedom was established. This shameful aggression of the current government against the DP is not simply against pluralism and democracy, but a scenario of a dangerous perspective. This is an aggression against a perspective of Albanians of their freedom, and their unification. This today is a denunciation before all Albanians of the most incriminated government. Is not it true that the life of Albanians in these 8 years has deteriorated ?!“, Said Nishani.
