Seven people were arrested on January 6 in Kosovo, during the action of the Kosovo Police that is still ongoing in connection with the case “Brezovica”.
Raids are taking place at the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning as well as nine other locations in Prishtina, Ferizaj and ërtrpce.
“At the moment there are seven arrested”, confirmed for Radio Free Europe, Shukri Jashari, Chief Prosecutor of the Ferizaj Prosecutor’s Office.
Kosovo Police said in a statement that among those arrested are two officials of the Ministry and five citizens.
Officials are suspected of taking bribes while citizens are suspected of giving bribes.
At the end of December 2021, the Kosovo Police arrested ten people, including the former mayor of ërtrpce / Shtërpcë, at the same time the official of the Serbian List, Bratislav Nikoliq, on charges of abuse of official position.
Authorities suspect that Nikolic has benefited from up to one million euros for permits issued illegally for the construction of facilities in Brezovica, in the municipality of Strpce.
Nikolic and the other detainees are suspected of receiving villas, cars and other gifts in exchange for issuing permits for the construction of villas and other facilities in the Sharri National Park, where Brezovica is located.
Brezovica is known for its ski center.
At the time of the December arrests, judicial authorities said most of the buildings in Brezovica had been built illegally.
According to them, if it is proven that they were built without a permit, all properties, including villas, will be temporarily seized.
Ërtrpce is one of six Serb-majority municipalities south of the Ibar River in Kosovo.
At its head, from its establishment in 2009 until the end of November 2021, was Nikolic, from the ranks of the Serbian List.
