On New Year’s Eve, the tradition is to have traditional food on the table but not to miss the rooster or sea chicken and baklava. In the show “Open”, where the holidays are discussed and the way Albanians want to celebrate, Robert Aliaj revealed the food he would like for the end of the year.
Robert Aliaj: We can not do tourism policy inside the territory without a dignified representation abroad because you can build the infrastructure there, but you will wait 100 years for some people to gather and see who you are. We need to bring quality to people here in their home, we need to talk here about us there and succeed. It is a waste of time, I understand what you mean, but I see much more successful an Italian cuisine in New York than an Italian cuisine in Rome. I know very well what is happening in the countryside in Albania, but if the restaurant in the center of Brussels does it and the state will be implicated in introducing budgets.
Question: If there was an Albanian restaurant in Brussels and you celebrated the new year, what would you eat, turkey, Elbasan casserole?
Robert Aliaj: The main concern is that there are holidays that seek to socialize people and this is the main goal. There are some rituals we celebrate and the reason why we are there. There are some holidays that are more than just holidays we inherit over the years. I would like an Elbasan casserole or a Tirana frying pan.
