31 years after the fall of communism, the base of Kuçova from today will be under the control of NATO precisely to serve those for whom it rose to fight.
At the inauguration ceremony, Defense Minister Niko Peleshi said that this NATO base in our country conveys a clear message to countries not friendly with the alliance, which have interests in the region.
In addition to the geo-political importance, Prime Minister Edi Rama also spoke about the economic benefits of this base.
Edi Rama: Today we are seeing the realization of a project, which, when it came as news, was incredible for many. I remember very well how much that news was ridiculed and how many distrustful comments were made when 3 years ago, the news became public and how much this process was continuously followed by comments and opinions, according to which, this moment is not It would never and would never happen that Kuçova turns into an air base where 5 projects will be implemented divided into 3 important packages and in addition to the benefits in strategic and military terms, the economy will be impacted in the long run. In the social aspect, also, the area of Kuçova will have a benefit, as coming from heaven, at this moment.
These Russian-made Mig aircraft are the historical evidence of the past of the Kuçova base. After the reconstructions from here, F17 aircraft will be raised to serve NATO where needed.
The NATO flag is already flying at the central command of the Kucova base. It is a historic day for the Albanian military. As for those hundreds of military who have worked in the past it is perhaps unbelievable that the base built with Russian support today is being transformed by the Americans.
NATO has decided to invest $ 51 million in the modernization of the Kuçova air base, which includes the total reconstruction of the runway and tower, the construction of fuel and ammunition depots. After three years of basic military work, it will be fully operational for the launch of its aircraft.
