Western countries and international organizations are reacting unanimously to punish Russia after the attack on Ukraine.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has condemned the attack on Ukraine as a shameless attack with no cause.
“This attack ‘endangers the lives of many civilians.’ We have made it clear that we have no plans to deploy NATO troops in Ukraine. What we have made clear is that we are increasing the presence of NATO troops in the eastern part of the Alliance on NATO territory.
US President Joe Biden was also harsh.
President Putin chose to follow the path of a premeditated war which would bring catastrophic loss of human lives and great suffering. Only Russia is responsible for the deaths and destruction that this attack will bring. The United States and its allies will respond unanimously and decisively. The world will hold Russia accountable for what it does.
German Chancellor Olaf Schoz condemned the attack. “This is a terrible day for Ukraine and a dark day for Europe,” he said. The German Chancellor telephoned the Ukrainian president and assured him of Germany’s full solidarity.
European Commission President Ursula von condemned the Russian attack “severely”. “We condemn Russia’s unjustified attack in the strongest possible terms,” Von der Leyen wrote on Twitter.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently came out openly against Moscow’s actions, calling them unacceptable and a threat to stability.
Erdogan: I would like to start by saying that we consider military action unacceptable and reject it. This step, which we see as a violation of international law, is a severe blow to the peace, tranquility and stability of the region. We are in close political, economic and social relations with Russia and Ukraine, which we see as friendly countries, and we are really sorry that they are facing this way.
While two countries seem to have supported Russia so far.
The Financial Times says China could help Moscow with those sanctions, mainly through raw material deals and bank loans, while seeking to avoid harming its economic and financial interests.
While Serbia is neither speaking nor against the Russian attack taking time and maintaining a neutral position.
From what is known so far, it is that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will try as much as he can to maintain neutrality, something that at the moment seems quite difficult for him.
