Three Albanians who gang-raped a young woman in Bedford, England, causing her the worst nightmare of her life, have been sentenced to a total of 57 years in prison.
How did the event happen?
The 23-year-old victim was enjoying her first night out after the end of Covid restrictions when she was separated from her friend. She found herself alone and vulnerable after leaving the Vogue nightclub in Bedford High Street in the early hours of Saturday, September 4 last year.
Unbeknownst to her, she had been chased into the club by Gemti Hyka, 31, who bundled her into his car and drove her to an address in the city center where he raped her.
Two of his accomplices, Vullnet Haka, 33, and Ibrahim Bezati, 36, arrived and raped him. During this time, the young woman was slapped in the face and forced to take cocaine.
During the trial at Luton Crown Court, Judge Steven Evans said they had caused the victim “every woman’s worst nightmare”, adding that they had “treated her as if she was less than human”.
The woman managed to escape from the house in the morning and was found in serious condition by passers-by.
Giving evidence at Luton Crown Crown Court, she said she did not remember leaving the club in the early hours of September 4 last year.
The girl told prosecutor Martin Mulgrew: “I begged them to let me go. I was confused and scared.’
Hyka, from Bedford, was jailed for 26 years after pleading guilty to kidnapping, false imprisonment and two counts of rape.
Haka, 33, and Bezati, 36, both of Bedford, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and two counts of rape of a woman. Haka was sentenced to 14 years. Bezat was sentenced to 17 years.
