The finding of the Authority for Information on the State Security Files, that a politician with a high political profile, with the initials IM, was part of the former State Security during the communist era, has set the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, in motion.
This morning the Speaker of the Parliament, Nikola, held meetings with the leaders of the parliamentary groups to inform them about the finding of this file. The first to arrive at her office is the head of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla.
“Today at 9:00, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party Taulant Balla held a meeting with the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, where he got acquainted with the information that has come to the Assembly of Albania from the Authority for Information on the Documents of the former Security of State (AIDSSH)” – was announced by the press office of the socialist Balla.
The Authority for Information on State Security Files said a day ago that a high-profile politician, with the initials IM, was part of the former State Security during the communist era.
Based on this case, the Files Authority asks the Parliament of Albania to change the law on files in the country, because it favors senior politicians and deputies of the Parliament of Albania, who are not punished for being collaborators of the State Security.
The current law provides that those politicians who have a clean security certificate from the commissions set up during the late 1990s, the Mezini-Bezhani commissions, will not be punished by the current authority.
In the letter sent to the Assembly, the authority also requests that the law be corrected to verify these officials who have come out clean in the previous commissions.
The authority further states that the Assembly was requested via e-mail to verify the figure of the IM citizen in the classified files of the former State Security.
