Feridja, 37, is the mother of four minor children, two of whom were forced to leave them in orphanages due to economic difficulties and the inability to provide income as a single parent.
She is from Elbasan but due to marriage and then divorce she lives with her two youngest children in Gjirokastra in an apartment that is temporarily being paid for by the municipality.
In addition her 3-year-old son has special needs and requires 24-hour care as he suffers from hydrocephalus a dangerous brain disease where cerebrospinal fluid envelops the brain and increases the presence of fluid inside the skull.
The aggravated health situation of the juvenile has led to other neurological problems resulting in lack of movement and inability to speak.
Alone in such a situation, Feridja has often considered suicide.
Feride wanders the streets for several hours a day morning and evening leaving the children alone asleep. She is forced to collect cans to somehow supplement the social support that is not enough even for the most basic needs. There is no food in her apartment.
Without job opportunities and income, without legal support and without support from her ex-husband and her family, Ferideja seeks a more dignified status and a more sustainable solution for her four children.
