The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, again denied the information that Albanian mercenaries were sent to Ukraine.
According to the minister, it is a lie created by Moscow, emphasizing that Albania stands by Ukraine and will continue to work with all allies and partners to help end Russian aggression.
“There are no Albanian mercenaries in Ukraine! This is a lie that Moscow continues to repeat without shame! That said, Albania stands with Ukraine and will continue to work with all allies and partners to help end Russia’s unprovoked aggression against the people of Ukraine. May God bless them”she said.
Moscow claims that “mercenaries” from Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia are being sent to fight alongside Ukrainian forces against pro-Russian insurgents, amid fears of a Russian attack on the neighboring country.
Officials from Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia have denied the allegations made last week by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Serbian President Vucic on Monday held a meeting of senior Serbian security officials, who reportedly also discussed reports on “mercenaries” from the Balkans heading to Ukraine.
Dozens of Serb fighters have fought in the past in eastern Ukraine, but on the side of pro-Russian insurgents. Serbia has officially declared a neutral approach to the Russia-Ukraine clash, which threatens a major war in Europe.
Tensions in Ukraine have risen as we approach the ninth day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The two rounds of talks between the two countries were without concrete results, while last night it seems that the thick ice barrier was broken after the delegations shook hands. It is not yet known what the fate of Ukraine will be, as the third round of talks is expected to take place over the weekend.
