The number of children affected by COVID has increased in our country, but not that of hospitalizations.
Children manifest milder symptoms and recover more quickly when treated at home.
“We see an increase in the number of cases among young people and children aged 5 to 14, we have an increase in these young age groups, cases of influenza are in all age groups across the country“, Said Silva Bino, Head of the Department of Epidemiology at IPH.
Our country has approved the vaccination of healthy children aged 15 and over, but the number of vaccinated is almost negligible, although children with chronic diseases parents have rushed to vaccinate them against COVID, the opposite happens with healthy children as the parents are the ones who hesitate.
“Parents should not have any hesitation, the Albanian experience and the world shows that children are a source of infection and re-infection. “We have healthy vaccinated children, but the number is small, at one percent.”, said Bino.
Vaccination of healthy children aged 15 and over has started in 2021 in many countries making it mandatory, including our neighbor, Italy. Bino advises vaccination against both covid and influenza.
