So it is a disease with a relatively benign course, which resolves itself, within a few days or a few weeks, maximum 3 weeks. The only 5 deaths that have been reported occurred in Central Africa, where we cannot say that it is the same health system as Europe or the USA.
99% of these cases that are in Europe or the USA, or other continents outside of Africa, are mostly young men. And 98% of these cases are men who identify themselves as men who have sex with other men. These are the data of the World Health Organization, of Professor Lewis, who is an expert on Monkey Pox, at the WHO, which means that a proper advice should be given for the protection of their health, but also of the community. It is not a matter of stigmatizing them, but it is a matter of information. The advice is that for 3 weeks there should be no close contact between the parties. Perhaps this is a step that the WHO might not have taken, as it makes no sense, when we see such low numbers of cases, non-existent mortality, with a disease that is transmitted very slowly, with a disease that we know for many decades, for which there is an approved vaccine, for which even the smallpox vaccine that the Albanians made some time ago, let’s say that at the age of 35 and above continues to be effective, for a disease that also has treatment approved to her. So for many aspects this disease does not deserve as much attention as it is being given.
