Though it sounds like a movie script, six sailors stranded on a remote island without food for nearly two weeks have been rescued by the Brazilian navy after sending a prayer message with a bottle.
The sailors were members of the crew of the ship ‘Bom Jesus’, and were reported missing by family members on April 11 after not returning from a 10-day voyage in the ocean.
But without being known by family members, the group had remained on the island of Ilha das Flechas [Ishulli i Shigjetës] from April 1 when their boat caught fire.
The remote island is located in the waters near the Brazilian state of Para and is completely uninhabited.
There the missing without food and without sufficient water supply, wrote a letter and dropped it into a bottle tied with a floating ball.
“Help, help! We need help, the boat caught fire, we are on Arrow Island for 13 days without food, let the family know, “the note on the bottle read, according to the CEN News Wire network.
Miraculously the message was found by a fisherman who quickly sent it to the Brazilian navy.
In their message the missing sailors had also placed the phone numbers of family members residing in the coastal city of Santarém.
On Wednesday the missing were rescued, after 13 days trapped on the island.
In the published video footage the group is seen greeting the navy forces before being taken to the ground by helicopter.
After being sent to the city of Belém the doctors said they were in generally good health but only suffering from dehydration.
They had survived by conserving rainwater and rationing their food, wrote the Brazilian network Oliberal.com.
The mother of one of the sailors said tearfully about the net Santarém e Região“Everyone is happy after they were found alive, it has relieved the worried people.”
Authorities said they were investigating the cause of their boat sinking.
