Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in Tirana and this Monday took part in the signing of a joint gas project between Albanians and Americans.
This project is an important step towards fulfilling the vision “Albania 2030” net energy exporter. This project will bring gas supply through the New Terminal that will be set up in Vlora.
The Minister of Energy, Belinda Balluku stressed that this is a project not only for our country, but that will serve the entire region.
“It is a significant moment for one of the strategic projects that has to do with the gasification of Albania, the project of the Vlora power plant. A big step that is being taken by a project that has to do with our country. It is cooperation with the Americans, on the other hand we had a desire for cooperation from Northern Macedonia and Kosovo to turn it into an important regional project. We have started a preliminary work in Houston. “To start concrete steps in a joint project, the fact that Pompeo supports this initiative to prove that it is a serious collaboration, will become real.”said Balluku.
“The step that we took with skepticism today is turning into one of the most important projects in the region. “That small market that made us very skeptical by expanding with the Open Balkans initiative is now seen as a market of 17 million Albanians who can turn to services directly.”added Balluku.
Prime Minister Edi Rama and the head of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, were also present during the signing of the memorandum of cooperation for the project.
