The army has entered the Mexican city of Aguililla, which has been in the hands of drug gangs for months.
The Mexican Ministry of Defense on Tuesday announced that the army sent a convoy of hundreds of soldiers and trucks to the town of Aguililla in Michoacano.
The statement said soldiers entered a small military base in the city breaking a civilian blockade last summer and said the government has launched a dialogue to take control of the city, where drug gangs are fighting, and intends to save the region from organized crime.
Aguililla is the scene of conflict between the new generation Jalisco cartel (CJNG) and the Viagra gang.
The government accuses city residents of backing the cartels in some way by blocking the base and demonstrating clashes with the military.
However, residents in Aguililla accuse the Mexican military of not intervening when it comes to the Viagra gang and that it is only fighting the Jalisco cartel.
