A woman is accused of ordering the murder of her businessman husband, when he was picking up their two daughters from school.
The Italian Raphael Alessandro Tunesi was shot by a barrage of bullets from two hitmen, who prosecutors say were agreed by his wife with the motivation “for financial reasons”.
The Italian hotel entrepreneur lived in Mexico and with his BMW car was going to pick up two of the three daughters of the couple from school, where he was executed, writes the daily La Stampa.
Tunis was killed on an empty street in Palenque, in the Mexican state of Chiapas.
The two killers were named by the prosecutors as Gerardo Antonio and Luis Martín, while his wife Elisabeth Tunesi was arrested on charges of organizing the murder.
Elizabeth is accused of asking for the murder for financial reasons, the agency writes ANSA.
Victim Tunesi was originally from Milan but had long been interested in the ancient Maya culture in Mexico, having studied law there.
He had settled in the country and built a holiday home with the help of his parents before meeting his wife 20 years ago.
He then moved into the hotel business becoming the owner of the five-star Quinta Chanabnal Boutique Hotel.
Tunesi was a respected member of the Italian community in Mexico and was known as a gifted linguist.
