Ginny Burton came from an impoverished family, from drug-addicted parents, as she herself did from her early teens.
But she already has it turned her life upside down graduating with honors from the University of Washington, USA. She says she already has the objective of proving that people can do extraordinary things if given chance.
Ginny’s father ended up in prison after a series of armed robberies but even when he got out of prison he did not return to her.
The girl says that from an early age she became addicted to marijuana and methamphetamine, which were used by her mother and siblings.
She later married and had two children with an abusive partner.
At the age of 23 she was completely addicted to drugs and had committed several armed robberies.
“I was like that. I have been convicted 17 times after taking the bag from every person who walked near me. To me, everyone was a victim or a hunting object. ”
Every time Ginny went to jail she had time to reflect and clean up in some way.
But every time she was released, she started using drugs again.
And when she was last arrested in December 2012 while driving a stolen vehicle, she says she felt relieved and not upset.
“As if I knew I would be fine after he handcuffed me and took me to the police car. I knew my life would change. At that moment, it seems to me that I made the decision to change at any price.
This time she confessed to all the crimes and was placed on a drug rehabilitation program and consequently not only recovered, but stayed that way.
“I had a lot of uncertainty at first, I was bigger than the others in the class and I had to read 300 pages a week that I had no idea about.”
Consequently she turned out to be the best in her class and then graduated in law, and is now looking to study for a master and become a prosecutor.
“To be honest, it may sound terrible, but my goal is to become a prosecutor because I want this field to be reformed. I think there is a need for another awareness of criminal prosecution. “There are many crimes that I do not want to defend, but I am disappointed by politicians at the local and national level,” said the recent graduate.
