Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha said that the voice of the right will be present in the European People’s Party, thus responding to the statement of MP David McAllister that “PPE will discuss the crisis in the DP”.
“PPE currently maintains a neutral stance, but our voice on PPE will be present“, Said Berisha this morning in a statement for the media.
Recall that David McAllister, chairman of the foreign policy committee in the European Parliament, in May 2017 was put in charge of negotiating the political crisis between Rama and Basha.
Five years later McAllister finds Albania another crisis. Not between the majority and the opposition, but the crisis deeper within the Democratic Party, since its inception on December 11, 1990. David McAllister is also vice-president of the European People’s Party where the DP belongs. In a statement to the media, a few days ago in Tirana, after saying that there can be no progress without a strong opposition, he explained what will happen between PPE and Sali Berisha, already at the head of the DP.
“We are following the developments in the DP. We will provide support like PPE to overcome divisions. We will have an EPP conference in Rotterdam in the coming weeks, from where we will have meetings and discuss developments in Albania”.
While McAllister said that the status with which he visits Albania does not give him the opportunity to comment during the developments in the DP, what is expected to happen at the PPE meeting in Rotterdam, German MP Gunther Krichbaum warned last week when he said that with Berisha’s return to the helm of the DP, European partners would be set in motion and consequently the DP’s membership in the European People’s Party would be called into question.
