The Special Prosecution of Kosovo together with the Kosovo Police Inspectorate, are conducting an action to identify border police officers and arrest them on suspicion of abuse of office and official authority. PIK announces that dozens are expected to be arrested.
The action is taking place in Gjakova at the border crossings Qafë Prush and Qafë Morinë, where it is learned that so far there are 48 escorts, among them two commanders of customs points.
The Police Inspectorate of Kosovo by order of the Special Prosecution are continuing the operation that started today in the early morning hours in Gjakova and Prizren.
Today’s operation was preceded by an investigation of about a year with the suspicion of involvement in illegal activities of a number of police officers related to the criminal offenses of “taking bribes” and “abuse of official position or authority”.
This PIK operation codenamed “Pika” is also being supported by the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Kosovo Customs and Kosovo Police.
As part of this investigative and operational action, PIK investigators are expected to arrest dozens of police officers suspected in this case (mainly border police officers) as well as several customs officials.
