President Ilir Meta appeared at a press conference today from Shkodra, where he spoke about the by-elections in 6 municipalities, which will be held on March 6.
Meta said that the race has been officially opened while calling on all political actors to respect the institution of free voting, to participate in elections and not to boycott.
The head of state said that he did not want to respond to the reaction made the day before by the General Secretary of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi.
“We expect to cooperate with Northern Macedonia to open negotiations next month,” Meta added.
“The CEC remains the main burden of organizing all work to have an exemplary process, which can and should be, this is my encouragement for all actors to participate and all citizens, because the vote is the strength of every citizen and they have to choose the best candidate who will run their municipality in all 6 municipalities. This contest has been officially launched.
I do not want to make retorts neither serious nor cheerful is an important moment to rebuild and restore, to rehabilitate the institution of free voting in the country. They are not national elections but let us not forget that it is a process that involves the most important municipalities of the country. The problems that our country has been facing for a long time are related to the respect we should have towards the institution of free voting, as citizens of the Republic of Albania and many consequences have come due to boycotts in the past. I urge the actors to serve an exemplary process that will be in the attention of inst who have made remarks on the standard of elections in our country. “We expect to cooperate with northern Macedonia to open negotiations next month,” Meta said.
