The Central Election Commission this Thursday, through a letter sent to the Ministry of Interior, asks the latter to consider it as an opportunity, in accordance with the law, for the voters who have expired their identification documents to be considered valid until the elections.
The letter states that the CEC has received concerns from some electoral entities participating in these elections, over a relatively large number of persons whose validity or expiration of identification documents has expired or is expiring.
Based on this concern, the CEC requests the Ministry of Interior that “in accordance with all legal provisions, please consider the possibility of validity of identification documents with an expired date, beyond March 6, 2022”.
According to the CEC, starting from the date of the decree of the elections until the date of their holding, objectively may not have given these citizens the opportunity with renewed identification documents to renew them.
The CEC says that in some municipalities where these elections will take place, they include remote mountainous areas and as such bring discouragement to potential voters to renew their identification documents.
