Court proceedings have been suspended for three weeks due to the boycott of lawyers who oppose the new court map.
Lawyer Ledio Braho, in an interview for “Top Talk”, says that the voice of the lawyers has not been taken seriously, while he insists that the boycott must continue.
“My opinion is that we should not withdraw from this without achieving anything. Even at the last meeting, there were voices saying that we should end the boycott because we are not achieving anything.
This is a fight for dignity. Even the hearings that were said not to have taken place were not taken into consideration. Six round tables were held, where all the local Chambers of Advocacy raised their claims and none was taken into consideration”.
Braho gives some concrete proposals, which include keeping four Courts of Appeal:
“What was requested was four Appeals, one for Korça, one for Vlora, which will include the south, Shkodra and Tirana. To merge Durrësi and Gjirokastra.
The other one, which was raised yesterday in the Laws Commission, is to suspend the map and wait to see what will be done with the territorial reform. Today there is a territorial reform that is in process, so it would be best to wait for the product of the territorial reform, from the administrative point of view. This would be the solution for the judicial map”.
In protest, against the new judicial map that reduces the number of courts in the country, lawyers gathered today in front of the Supreme Judicial Council. The protest was called by the National Bar Association.
Speaking to the media, the head of the National Chamber of Advocacy, Maksim Haxhia, said that they will turn to the Constitutional Court as the last step to oppose the new judicial map.
“We presented arguments so that justice is feasible and citizens have access to the justice system. We have proposed variants that are feasible. We will send it to the Constitutional Court, that is the last step, we are lawyers”.
