Serbia is ready at any moment to continue the dialogue with Kosovo, said the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, after the meeting in Belgrade with the European Union special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak.
Vucic said that Serbia supports Lajcak’s activities, efforts and goals to “with a policy of compromise, reach a solution that would mean dissatisfaction or partial satisfaction for both parties – without ultimatums and imposed solutions.” expressed his desire for dialogue to show understanding for “Serbia’s state and national interests”.
“We consider that a compromise agreement means: everything to anyone, enough to everyone. “Despite the statements coming from Pristina, which are not encouraging, it is our obligation to be responsible and committed,” Vucic said.
Asked to comment on statements by Kosovo officials that they expect Serbia to recognize Kosovo, Vucic said: “If anyone thinks they can say: you must now recognize an independent Kosovo, this will not happen. They think that in this way they can put pressure on our country and that the Serbs will give them everything they want, because they will be under pressure. “This will not happen.”
While Lajcak said that dialogue is essential for the further progress of both countries towards EU membership. “The status quo is not stable for either side. “EU member states expect the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo to continue constructively and in good faith,” Lajcak said, adding that the dialogue “will take place quickly, as long as the parties are ready.”
Lajcak said that his visit to the region is carried out in cooperation with the United States, but due to technical reasons, it was not possible for the US envoy to the Balkans, Matthew Palmer, to take part in the visit. Before Serbia, Lajcak stayed in Kosovo while on Thursday he will stop in Montenegro.
