The European Union’s special envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, said that the last meeting of the working groups of Kosovo and Serbia was held on April 20, regarding the issue of license plates.
According to him, it is up to the chief negotiators of both countries to reach an agreement on this issue, during their meeting on April 21.
“Today, experts from Kosovo and Serbia met for the last time within the working group for car license plates, before the deadline of April 21. With their work, they have prepared the discussions of the chief negotiators, which will be held tomorrow. “Now it is up to the chief negotiators to reach an agreement to move forward,” Lajcak wrote on Twitter.
On April 21, Kosovo’s chief negotiator Besnik Bislimi and Serbia’s Petar Petkovi do will meet in Brussels.
The interim license plate agreement, according to which the state symbols of Kosovo and Serbia on license plates are covered with adhesive paper, was reached on September 30 last year, which aimed to reduce tensions in northern Kosovo.
Working groups were then formed, which by April 21 must present a permanent solution to the plates “based on EU standards and practices”.
Kosovo had established reciprocity for Serbian license plates on September 20, a measure that meant that cars with Serbian license plates would be replaced with test plates, valid for 60 days and costing five euros. To a similar extent, cars from Kosovo had faced for a decade.
The European Union has called on the parties to reach a compromise on the issue of license plates.
