Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has blamed previous governments for the current state of electricity, saying it was more profitable to steal from KEK than to invest in repairs in the sector.
He said in a press conference that for two decades there have been no sustainable repairs in the energy sector for Kosovo’s power plants, which would ensure sufficient production above existing capacity.
“It was more profitable to steal from KEK than to invest in it. But we are on top of the task, we have found the state on the ground in all directions but together we will raise it to its feet. We must improve this inherited situation, but those who brought us to this day to save us from the lectures and let them blush from the situation in which they left us the state “, said Kurti.
Prime Minister Kurti stressed that as a result generating capacity from power plants are insufficient to cover demand at peak times and that Kosovo is dependent on imports.
“At the moment we are talking about electricity we have about 390 megawatts from the blocks of Kosovo A… Following the example of European countries the government will allocate the necessary amount to cover imports and will do our best to maintain a regular supply and avoid growth eventual electricity prices e Such prices may continue indefinitely, but it is important now to save electricity to the maximum. The government I lead will address all energy issues within this mandate. The strategy that I expect to present to you within the first half of the year 2022 is only the first step in this direction. “I pledge for the security of supply with a stable transition and at affordable prices”, said Kurti.
He said that they have approved in the government the decision with which they asked President Vjosa Osmani to authorize the Ministry of Finance to sign a loan between Kosovo, KOSTT and the German KfW for the project of developing the energy sector to improve the network of transmission.
“Regarding the decision regarding the loan agreement between Kosovo, KOSTT and KfW, after ratification in the Assembly of Kosovo, immediately next year we will start implementing. We will do everything we know and can to help the citizens for a more stable supply and affordable prices. We know we have a poor population even when prices are not high, they are high… I spend most of my time either sitting in the car or traveling from one place to another, but last night when “I went home very late, I warmed myself with blankets”, said Kurti.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli said that they had meetings with the authorities in Albania and Northern Macedonia to find a solution regarding the supply of electricity. She said that the call for saving electricity had an effect, for which she thanked the citizens, as she clarified once again the issue of saving.
“In fact, video game consoles cost more than we thought. More precisely Play Station 4 8 / .5 watts in standby, RBox one 15.7 watts, Nintendo switch 7.5-18 watts during accumulation. “The new generation of video games can have a huge impact on electricity consumption in your home.… We did not invent it, these are instructions from experts based on measurements”, she said.
Nagip Krasniqi, director of KEK, has announced the current situation in electricity production in the country. He said that tomorrow the B1 block is expected to return to work, with which the heat supply in Termokos will be returned.
“In terms of coal production I can assure you that we have enough coal and the current quantities are about 420 thousand tons in landfills, while per month we are able to produce around 800 thousand tons so in terms of coal we do not expect any obstacles. all the units we have in operation, including five units in the plan. In TPP A we have put three units into operation. In Kosovo B we had breakdown problems that caused these units to fall out of production. “What is promising for unit B1 is that tomorrow morning it will enter into operation and return, and with this we expect the central heating of Termokos to return,” he said.
While unit B2, he added, had a more difficult breakdown and it is still unknown when it will return to function./KosovaPress/
