The number of students in schools in the district of Kukës is decreasing every year.
This year alone there is a drop of about 200 students. This phenomenon has affected the schools of the city and the administrative units. The Municipality of Kukes, which has about 78 educational facilities in its territory, including administrative units, has fewer and fewer students, in 9-year and secondary education. The distance of schools to the centers inhabited in remote villages, emigration, moving to big cities, low fertility, or the demand for quality education, are some of the reasons that have led to the reduction of this number.
Students claim that there is an outflow of students in their classrooms. They say that many of them have moved to European countries, but there are also those who have fled to cities such as Tirana, Durres, etc.
The number of students is 7,226, of which 5,385 belong to 9-year education and 1841 to secondary education, while a year ago the number was 7,401. It is noticed that the number has decreased by 200 students. The decrease in the number of students has also led to the closure or merger of some schools, such as in the villages of Gsheshtë, Malzi unit, Domaj-Kolosian, Bicaj unit, and the village of Kollovoz, Shishtavec unit.
