The Moscow military has threatened to strike at Ukrainian command centers in the capital, Kiev, if Ukrainian troops continue to attack Russian territory.
“We are seeing attempts by Ukrainian soldiers to carry out sabotage and attacks inside our land. “If such episodes continue, then the Russian armed forces will hit decision-making centers, including in Kiev,” said the Russian defense ministry.
The threat against Ukraine’s top command, including President Volodymyr Zelensky himself, came after Russian regional authorities claimed that gunshots were heard Wednesday near a Russian village in a western region bordering Ukraine.
It was not immediately clear what happened after authorities in the Kursk region provided conflicting information and deleted an earlier statement saying a border checkpoint had been engulfed in flames. The Russian threat also came after the presidents of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia traveled by train to Kiev to meet Zelenskyn, with photos showing the five men meeting together in the capital.
They, like the leaders of all NATO countries, are worried that they could face a similar attack by Russia in the future if Ukraine falls. It is learned that the White House is considering sending a high-level delegation to Kiev in support of Zelensky.
According to some reports, Joe Biden may go to Ukraine himself for talks with his Ukrainian counterpart. The last time he was in Kiev was in 2017, when he visited Ukraine as US Vice President, three days before leaving the post.
