The Assembly of Kosovo will convene today starting at 14:00 to hold an extraordinary session, where it will be discussed about Serbia’s intentions to hold a constitutional referendum in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
The discussion from this session aims to issue a joint resolution, which expresses the political will of the deputies and parliamentary groups and the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, on this issue.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo will not participate in this session, which confirmed on Friday evening that its deputies will not be present at the session. PDK WG chief Abelard Tahiri said that PDK is against holding a Serbian referendum in Kosovo, but, nevertheless, the Government should have better coordination with EU countries and the US during this period.
President Vjosa Osmani, Speaker Glauk Konjufca, as well as Prime Minister Albin Kurti issued a joint statement after meeting with QUINT ambassadors and the EU representative, emphasizing once again their opposition to holding a Serbian referendum in Kosovo.
The statement said that the opening of Serbian polling stations in the territory of Kosovo constitutes a clear violation of the Constitution and laws of Kosovo, as well as international practices. Moreover, such an act is a violation of territorial integrity by Serbia in relation to the independent and sovereign state of Kosovo.
The heads of state told the ambassadors that Kosovo Serb citizens with dual citizenship would have the right to vote in accordance with international standards and practices, by mail and at the Liaison Office.
According to them, the practices applied so far since 2012, have been unconstitutional, and as a result do not oblige the current institutions of the Republic of Kosovo arising from the clear will of the citizens expressed on February 14, 2021.
Kosovo institutions have emphasized that the issue is not the role of the OSCE, but the role of Serbia and its parallel and illegal structures in Kosovo.
Kosovo institutions have called on all democratic states to support Kosovo in its efforts to stop Serbia’s continued actions that undermine Kosovo’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and statehood. Moreover, according to them, this practice of Serbia, which is following the Russian model, has the full support of the Russian Federation.
