The Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla has announced that the Kosovo Police has conducted an action to confiscate cryptocurrency mining equipment in the village of Trebice in Leposavic.
“In this action near the village of Trebice in the municipality of Leposavic, 272 of these types of equipment were confiscated and one person was arrested. “The whole action took place and ended without incidents”, wrote Minister Sveçla on Facebook.
Minister Sveçla said that this action was organized in order to detect and confiscate equipment for the production of cryptocurrencies.
As Minister Sveçla said, such actions will continue until “the full implementation of the decision of the Assembly and the Government of the Republic”.
Finally, Kosovo is facing an energy crisis, after the increase in the price of electricity imports. Authorities have adopted emergency energy measures.
As part of these measures, the Government of Kosovo announced on Tuesday, January 4, that the competent institutions will be committed to stop the production of cryptocurrencies, as it is suspected that the equipment with which they are produced, cause high electricity consumption.
