Amid the latest developments from the mass riots in Kazakhstan, the bodies of three police officers killed by beheadings by mobs were found on the streets.
Russian “peacekeeping” troops and armored vehicles are being sent to the former Soviet republic to quell protests that began Sunday over the sudden rise in fuel and energy prices.
The country is one of the leading exporters of oil and gas in the world.
The media say that a total of 13 police officers were killed as the government said that the beheading of the last three victims shows that “the riots are of a terrorist nature”.
The number of protesters killed is still unknown, which is logically estimated to be higher than that of police officers.
It is still not clear who committed the latest killings or whether the victims were alive, or their bodies were mutilated after death.
About 353 officers were injured during the violent protests in Almaty and about 2,000 protesters were arrested.
Russia has reportedly sent 3,000 troops to Kazakhstan and about 500 to Belarus, writes the British “The Sun”.
One of the videos showed protesters forming a “human shield” outside a hospital after protesting that police were being given priority over injured demonstrators.
Another shocking video showed what looked like bodies of protesters killed in bloody riots.
Comments on the scene read: “Corpses, bodies of protesters. “Young people of different ages are all protesters.”
The camera then approaches one of the bodies:
“He performed an operation here, look at the suture, but he died anyway.”
During the night, police spokesman Saltanat Azirbek admitted the killing of dozens of protesters, according to “The Sun”.
“Extremist forces attempted to raid government buildings in Almaty so dozens of attackers were eliminated, their identities are being determined.”
The videos also showed shoplifting in cities where several supermarkets were empty amid mass riots.
President Kassym-Yomart Tokayev said last night: “Today I call on allied countries to help Kazakhstan overcome this terrorist threat.”
Television reports spoke of more than 1,000 injured during the violence, 400 of whom were taken to hospitals.
