Three police officers were arrested for the serious incident that took place yesterday in the premises of the Kavaja police station where a 31-year-old arrested man is suspected of killing himself.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ilvi Meta had committed suicide using the hooded tie of the T-shirt he was wearing and that there were no signs of violence on his body.
For the death of Ilvi Meta, police officers Bexhet Berberi, Rushit Kola and Petrit Brahimaj were arrested for abuse of office and non-compliance with the security procedures of detained and arrested persons.
According to police sources, two of these citizens were on duty yesterday at the detention room, while the third was the service officer on duty at the police station, where the young man committed suicide. 31-year-old Ilvi Meta was arrested yesterday afternoon by a decision of the Kavaja court as a person suspected of theft.
Sources from the prosecution suggest that it is suspected that the victim undertook the act under pressure to admit other thefts that occurred in the area.
The causes of death still remain a mystery and forensic expertise is expected to clarify them further assisting investigations and liability on suspicious deaths within police premises.
