A choreographer and two Italian dancers from the Puglia Region prepared for days the children of a local art school in Gjirokastra to stage the play “Jump in the Air”.
The presentation was the first product of a dance laboratory established through bilateral cooperation.
“The theme was born from the beauty of special and unique meetings these days in Gjirokastra between Italian artists and young dancers from Gjirokastra. “Every moment was a hug, greeting or encouragement for a challenge, comfort or emotion for an accomplished goal, enthusiasm or pure physical energy, noisy and explosive”, says Elisa Barucchieri, choreographer of the show.
The play was the product of an earlier collaboration part of the “Theater for Social Inclusion” program.
The Gjirokastra Theater is completing the restoration as part of this collaboration and will reopen in June after a break of almost 3 years.
The biggest problem that Gjirokastra is suffering from but also other cities of the South is related to the constant departure of art professionals but also of young people who do not see perspective if they are educated locally.
