People gathered in Halland today to attend this year’s Kosläpp ritual otherwise known as “releasing cows”.
The ceremony promoted by the Swedish dairy industry takes place once a year when excited cows emerge from the farm for the first time after a long winter.
Knowing that they are waiting for the open spring pastures, the dairy cows jump joyfully along their way, from where it gets its name and ritual.
Despite the cold wind and still cold temperatures, spring has come to Sweden and farm animals can get out of the cold stables where they spent the winter.
Dozens of them danced happily today on farms on the outskirts of the capital Stockholm.
“I live in the city but it is very beautiful here on natural farms,” says Linda Lundberg, an event participant with her friends.
Such ceremonies usually take place in the first week of May when temperatures start to warm up on the Scandinavian peninsula.
