EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borell will travel to Northern Macedonia, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 13-16.
His visit will reaffirm the EU’s commitment and support for the region, given Russia’s war on Ukraine and its impact on Europe’s security.
On Monday, Borel will be in Skopje, where he will meet with President Stevo Pendarovski, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski and Deputy Foreign Minister Bojan Marichijk, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, Defense Minister Slavjanka Petrovska, parliament Talat Xhaferi and leaders of parliamentary groups.
The EU High Representative will hold a press conference with the Prime Minister at 12:00. He will then take part in an event where representatives of civil society and youth organizations will present their work on the contribution of the Western Balkans to the Conference on the Future of Europe.
On Tuesday, he will travel to Tirana where he will meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama. Their meeting will be followed by a press conference at 11:00. Borell will meet with other representatives of the Albanian authorities and civil society representatives and will see closely the mosaic works at the National Historical Museum, reconstructed by the EU after the damage suffered by the strong earthquake.
On Wednesday, he will be in Sarajevo where he will first pay a visit to Operation EUFOR Althea, whose troop capacity on the ground has almost doubled recently. High Representative Borrell will then meet with Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities, representatives of the political opposition and civil society.
