British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at a press conference on Downing Street with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz condemned the bombing of the train station.
He said the two countries share the same sense of “horror and disgust” at the “brutality that is taking place” in Ukraine, including the bombing of refugees fleeing their homes this morning.
“It is a war crime to attack civilians indiscriminately, and crimes in Ukraine will not go unnoticed or unpunished.”he said.
Johnson reiterated his position that “Putin will fail” before the United Kingdom imposes new sanctions and travel bans on Russia.
He also hailed the German chancellor’s determination to end its dependence on Russian energy, adding: “This is not easy for any of us, and I applaud the decisions taken by the Scholz government to remove Germany from Russian hydrocarbons.”
The prime minister said the UK and Germany had joined dozens of allies to supply Ukraine with defensive weapons, including helmets and armor.
“Europe we only knew six weeks ago no longer exists. Putin’s invasion lays the very foundations of our continent ‘s security, but his ambition to divide us has clearly failed.“, Added Johnson.
“On the contrary, he has managed to unite Europe and the entire transatlantic alliance in support of Ukraine and in strong solidarity with each other.”
