Some serious security camera footage shows a masked man entering a jeweler in Huntington Beach, pulling out a hammer and breaking glass windows.
Three accomplices with backpacks pursue him to carry out the robbery, before the store employees take action by clashing with the robbers.
The images show employees pushing and shooting the robbers with their hands and feet, while a woman drops a bench on them.
Dallas Baca, the son of the owner and one of the protagonists, said about the attempt on Sunday, May 22: “I did not think much, I just reacted”. His sister Sarah, who also works in the store told the media that he had asked for something heavy and grabbed the bench to fight the robbers.
The latter then left the mall without receiving anything, local police said in a statement, adding that investigations are ongoing.
“They were lucky that the criminals did not have weapons other than those with which they smashed jewelry windows,” Officer Bruce Thomas told KABC. “If they had had a pistol, things could have ended differently.”
The store will remain closed for a few days for repairs.
Huntington Beach is a city of 201,000 in south Los Angeles.
