The lighting of the Puglia lights – or as they are otherwise known ‘le luminarie di Puglia’ – yesterday at midnight, in the pedestrian area of the Tirana Castle, marked the beginning of the “Italian Culture Week”, with 54 cultural, artistic and social events. In the company of the Ambassador of Italy, Fabrizio Bucci and the Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, Mayor Erion Veliaj praised the friendship between the two peoples and promised that the Italian Culture Week will be a week not to be missed in Tirana.
The big intersection of the Boulevard with the street “Myslym Shyri” has produced this alley, which in daily jargon we refer to as “pedestrian”, shows how connected we are with Italy and Italian culture. In these 30 years we have become very close to our neighbor. Italy has taught us beautiful things, starting with fashion, music, the way we make television, art or culture. So, I’m glad to start the Italian Culture Week with such an impressive light installation. It is definitely like a gateway to the sidewalk of memory between Albania and Italy, but it is also a bridge. The gate is a union of two folds and I am glad that on one side is Tirana, on the other, at the foot of Italy, is Puglia. Italian week is a fantastic opportunity with 54 activities and turning on these lights is only the first activity ‘, said Veliaj.
According to him, many activities with Italian neighbors will culminate with the concert of the famous singer, Albano Carrisi at the Tirana Amphitheater. “There will be activities for all ages, even for children in the Puppet Theater, and for adults with ‘Verdi Off’. There will also be activities for architecture enthusiasts, but also for food with the big pizza feast. Therefore, get out of the house, leave the cars, pick up the kids and family, and join in these fantastic activities. We can not wait to enjoy it as a friendship, as a holiday, as a great love like the one between Albania and Italy! ”, Added Veliaj.
The Italian Ambassador in Tirana, Fabrizio Bucci stated that these joint cultural activities are proof of the closeness between the two peoples. “We are expecting a fantastic year for Tirana and for Italy in Albania. Tirana is the European Capital of Youth. A few days ago was a beautiful celebration, the Conference League Cup, and the final held here, where we followed the victory of the Italian team. So our lives are filled with symbols. “We have 7 days full of activities”, he said.
The Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti expressed her conviction that this is just the beginning of a new journey of cooperation. “These weeks will keep a symbolism for a very long time in our memory, but above all I hope in the friendship that will continue for many years. We are here to start a new journey, not only to thank for what we have had in hundreds of years of friendship, but also to show what we can do even more together “, said Minister Margariti.
Activities between Puglia and Tirana include music concerts, modern ballet performances, cuisine, and development projects focusing on the economic and professional empowerment of Albanian youth.
