The Supreme Court ruling overturning the right to abortion in the United States is seen as a step backwards in respecting the rights of girls and women.
In a discussion on the show “Top Story” on this topic, biologist Elona Gjebrea says that this decision will directly affect the physical, mental, psychosocial health of women and girls and women who come from poor, vulnerable, immigrant women, unemployed, raped women.
“All these marginalized groups are affected. But on the other hand, it could have an effect on many other countries, which see the US as a place where fundamental rights are highly respected and which can be influenced by the movements we are seeing, will have impacts. Undoubtedly, this is a step backwards, for some freedoms that have struggled for many years to achieve them and suddenly come back and this debate reopens, which may have an escalating effect in some countries that may be even more vulnerable and have specific reasons and conditions that may be even more sensitive to this decision ”.
The Supreme Court ruled that abortion was not performed automatically in the United States, but states can decide whether to allow it.
About 26 states are expected to ban or restrict abortion in the coming weeks.

The 1973 decision Roe v Wade was approved by the Supreme Court by seven votes to two. Through this decision, women have the right to terminate their pregnancies.
