The sample of a patient from Kosovo suspected of monkey pox, sent for testing in the Netherlands, has turned out to be negative, the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Public Health announced on Wednesday in a press release.
The 69-year-old patient from the municipality of Dragash / Dragaash was registered on June 3, 2022, after being hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases Clinic-UCCK and it was suspected that he may have been affected by the monkey pox. Samples from the skin change were taken to be sent for laboratory tests in the Netherlands.
“NIPHK was notified on Wednesday by the respective laboratories of this state, that this sample was negative and the case in question did not turn out to be affected by the monkey lion.” – written in the notice.
Leopard monkeys were first discovered in monkeys in 1958 in Africa. The first human case was reported in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. So far, monkey leeches have been concentrated in only a small number of African countries. Cases exported elsewhere have been rare or non-existent.
