Israeli security forces used tear gas today following days of fierce confrontation against new Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
Israeli police also confronted Palestinian protesters at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, while the UN expressed “concern” about the escalation of violence.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said 57 people were injured in the Old City of Jerusalem, including 14 Palestinians who were taken to hospital.
The clashes erupted over nearly a month of violence during the Jewish festival of Ringjalla, which coincided with Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.
Violence has sparked fears of a resumption of the conflict, a year after the 11-day war between Israel and militants in Gaza, in the same period.
This week Palestinian groups in Gaza fired artillery shells at Israel as Tel Aviv responded with airstrikes on impoverished territory.
“We are concerned about the escalation of violence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and in Israel over the last month,” said UN human rights spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani.
