More than 500,000 people in Israel have received the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to the state Ministry of Health.
Israel began boosting doses for the most vulnerable to the virus last month, and later included all over the age of 60.
Authorities hope the boosting doses will stop the wave of infections triggered by the Omicron variant.
Data from the Ministry of Health show that Israel has 250,000 active cases of coronavirus.
However, only 317 people are very ill.
“The recent vaccination campaign marks a historic moment,” Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said in a statement.
“Thanks to the half a million Israelis who received the fourth dose of the vaccine and thus helped us all to be safer.”
Israel was one of the first countries to launch a vaccination campaign last year, including giving the third dose of the vaccine.
Nearly half the population has received at least one booster dose.
Since the pandemic broke out, this state of nearly 9.5 million people has recorded 8,298 deaths from the coronavirus.
