A hospital in Israel has said it will launch tests on health staff to understand the effect of the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
About 150 medical staff at Shiba Hospital near Tel Aviv will receive the fourth dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine.
Each of them received the third dose of the vaccine on 20 August.
“In this study we will analyze the effect of the fourth vaccine in terms of antibodies, disease prevention and safety analysis,” said Gili Regev-Jochai, director of the infectious disease department.
According to the hospital, this is the first study of its kind in the world.
At the time of the spread of the highly contagious variant of the coronavirus, Omicron, Israel has announced that people over the age of 60 should receive the fourth dose of the vaccine.
A panel of government experts has recommended that healthcare workers should be vaccinated for the fourth time.
Israel faced its fourth wave of infections with the virus in November.

Although Israel is among the countries with the fastest-growing vaccination campaign, only about 63 percent of the population of 9.3 million have received both doses.
This is justified by the fact that the population of Israel is relatively young and one third of the population is under 14 years old.
To increase the vaccination rate, Israel now also vaccinates children from the age of five.
Since the pandemic broke out, Israel has registered more than 1.36 million cases of coronavirus infection.
According to Johns Hopins University, about 8,200 people have died from the virus in Israel.
