Israel has banned therapies aimed at “curing” homosexuality.
This decision will be implemented immediately.
Monday’s order also includes penalties for those involved in “serious abuses of the LGBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) community,” Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz said in a Twitter post.
“Sexual orientation is not a problem that needs treatment. “‘Conversion therapies’ are not treatments,” Horowitz wrote.
He addressed members of the LGBT community, saying they were “wonderful and beautiful as they are”.
Germany has approved a partial ban on “conversion therapies” in 2020.
Since then, these therapies have been completely banned for young people and adults in certain situations.
In recent decades, Israel has become more tolerant of homosexuality.
The coastal city of Tel Aviv is considered partly liberal.
However, same-sex couples cannot get married.
