The Islamic State (IS) militant group killed six people, including four women, in Syria’s Al-Hol camp in December, a monitoring group said.
The Kurdish-controlled camp houses 62,000 people, including relatives of IS militants.
About 93 percent of the people housed in the camp are women and children, and almost half of them are from Iraq.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group that has a network of resources in Syria, “six killings” have been carried out in the Al-Hol camp since the beginning of December.
The latest victim was killed on Saturday, December 18, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
Among the victims were three Iraqis – two men and a woman – as well as two Syrian women and another woman, whose identity remains unknown, the monitoring group said.
Since the beginning of this year, the killings in this camp have increased. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 86 people have been killed in al-Hol this year, including 63 Iraqi refugees.
The head of this monitoring group, Rami Abdel Rahman warned that in the camp “there is chaos and insecurity”, adding that the situation could worsen, reports AFP.
In March, Kurdish authorities launched a major operation in the Al-Hol camp, arresting 125 suspected IS members.
The United Nations has repeatedly warned of deteriorating security conditions at Camp Al-Hol.
There are about 10,000 foreign women, children and relatives of IS militants in the camp.
Since the defeat of IS in March 2019, the Syrian Kurds and the United Nations have repeatedly called on foreign states to repatriate their nationals being held in northeastern Syria. But most states are refusing to repatriate their citizens who are in this camp.
