Experts conducted a study of over 170,000 healthy Britons in their 50s and analyzed their coffee drinking habits.
They divided people into categories: those who drank sweet coffee, those who drank sugar-free coffee, and those who did not.
They found that drinking two to four cups of coffee a day was the best option, regardless of whether they used sugar in the coffee or not.
They explained it this way: those who drank unsweetened coffee had up to 29 percent lower risk of premature death compared to those who did not drink, while sweet coffee was associated with a 31 percent higher risk low.
The average coffee consumer who uses sugar in coffee added only about a teaspoon of sugar, which is a controlled dose and poses no serious risk, according to scientists. This is much less than the amount of sugar added to ready-made coffees sold in various retail chains.
