A father has admitted killing his teenage daughter with a firearm in what is suspected to be an “honour killing” but claims it was an accident, saying he “just wanted to scare her”.
Mohammad Kazem Lashkari, 43, reportedly flew into a rage when he saw his daughter Ariana Lashkari, 15, with a boy in the park in the southern Iranian city of Nurabad.
After his arrest, Mohammad said he only wanted to scare his daughter and that he fired the gun accidentally in the June 27 tragedy.
He told the police: “After the argument, Ariana went to my mother’s house and I couldn’t control my anger. I took the rifle to scare him, but I shot accidentally.”
But one of Ariana’s relatives said that her father had killed her because he could not accept the fact that his daughter wanted to live her life.
“Ariana was a girl who did not like to be subjugated by her father,” the anonymous relative said, according to activist Masih Alinejad.
He added: “Ariana was a quiet girl who went to school and was full of hope. all his friends adored him. I still can’t believe she’s gone.”
“I hope that the blood of this innocent girl will not be wasted like others who have been killed in this way.”
About 15 percent of murders in Iran are so-called “honor killings,” while more than 60 percent of women’s murders are committed by a member of their family, writes the British Daily Mail.
Neighbors said Mohammad was under the influence of drugs when he committed the murder.
Investigations continue.
