A government spokesman confirmed that the vaccines came from the US, which is an “unauthorized source”
Iran has returned 820,000 doses of the British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccine to Poland, a health ministry spokesman said today, which were donated by Warsaw.
“When the vaccines arrived in Ran, we discovered that 820,000 doses of them had been imported into Poland from the US. “After coordination with the Polish ambassador to Iran, it was decided that the vaccines should be returned,” officials told local media.
In a letter quoted by the Al Jazeera network, Iranian Health Minister Bahram Einollahi told the head of customs that the injections turned out to be from an “unauthorized source” despite Poland’s guarantees.
Einollahi added that the Polish authorities had pledged to replace the vaccines with products from “authorized sources” and to take back the returned needles.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamanei had earlier decided to ban all British and American vaccines.
The country later authorized the AstraZeneca vaccine, although it is manufactured in Britain.
“Imports of British and American vaccines into the country are banned… they do not trust, it is no wonder they want to contaminate other countries,” Khamenei said last year.
