A car crashed into the gate of the Russian Embassy in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, exploding in fire and killing the driver, police said.
According to Bucharest police, the car crashed into the Embassy gate at around 06:00 local time on April 6, but failed to enter the embassy complex.
Firefighters managed to put out the fire, but the driver of the car died at the scene, authorities said in a statement.
Videos posted after the incident show the car involved in the fire as security personnel were seen running.
It is still unclear whether this was an accident or the car collided intentionally. Police said they were investigating the incident and did not disclose the identity of the driver.
In recent weeks, several Russian embassies in European countries have been the target of angry protesters following the start of Moscow’s unprovoked war in Ukraine.
