The Peshkëpi massacre is considered one of the most serious events during the 3 decades of democracy, as it is a violation of Albania’s sovereignty.
The event greatly strained the relations between Albania and Greece at that time. The group of terrorists who spoke Greek, openly unfolded and left a message to the Albanian soldiers that they were fighting for the liberation of the so-called Northern Epirus. The next day, the attack was carried out by the Greek terrorist organization “MAVI”, or “Front for the Liberation of Northern Epirus”. The military command that carried out the attack was named “PIRRO”. On July 26, 2000, an information was administered by the National Intelligence Service that the MAVI organization had terrorist intentions against our country.
This information is said to have been provided in 1993, ie 1 year before the attack in Peshkëpi.
“All data received on the day of the event were re-evaluated, first in the light of developments in science legislation evolving over time, which means that the evidence was not evaluated and due to knowledge, we had their re-evaluation,” he said. Eugen Beçi, former prosecutor
In the investigative file, since the preliminary investigation the attack was investigated on two tracks as revealed in this document.
The perpetrators of this event may be Greek citizens sent by certain Greek chauvinist circles for political purposes.
And the second track the perpetrators may be Greek and Albanian citizens collaborating for smuggling purposes. The file quotes an article in the Greek newspaper “TANEA” from 1991 where the description of the members of the MAVI organization that aimed at the secession of the territories of the South of Albania stood out. Somewhere in Crete, the “MAVI” was created and was being trained, consisting of former officers of the Greek army intelligence service.
